Apparently Johannesburg is the unofficial capital of South Africa, I disagree. There is a reason Cape Town is widely referred to as the ‘Mother City,’ a good reason. No, this has nothing to do with ‘your mother this’ or ‘your mother that’ (a common phrase by locals) nor will we cripple Johannesburg by reference to our beautiful coastline. It has more to do with the fact that we are Cape Town and no one can be prouder and if you cannot hear us we’ll shout a little louder...

Okay, if at this stage you still require proof of the above then you probably weren’t born and bred here. So here are but a few reasons Cape Town is the ‘unofficial capital, mother city, and bombdiggity’ of this continent. I could start with Jan Van Riebeeks arrival on 6 April 1652 but decided to fast forward to modern Cape Town; the home of the Stormers rugby team, Long Street, The Cape Wine lands (Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franshoek), it’s vibrant, diverse and cosmopolitan mix of beautiful people (very beautiful people), Kirstenbosch and summer sunset concerts, a city so full of life and always a buzz yet hosts the most relaxed breed of people. It even sports its own time zone: ‘Cape Town Time’ – normally 2 hours later than the scheduled time. Cool artists have hailed from here: Goldfish, The Dirty Skirts, Jack Parrow,  and the latest sensation Locnville. Oh and did I mention our beautiful coastline? Sorry Johannesburg – we win!

So if you’re 20 odd there’s no question… this is where it’s at.
